DISK APD 136 : MATHS CALCULATOR V1.1 by Simon Jewell
VENDREDI by Frederic Simian
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
MATHS CALCULATOR is a very well documented program. It covers area and
volume, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions to
percentages. Future updates are planned to cover things like Trigonometry
(I hated that at school!). On loading you are presented with a menu. You
must use the numbers on the keypad and not the main keyboard. This is the
only thing I didn't like about the program as I automatically use the
numbers on the main keyboard and felt clumsy using the keypad. There is
speech used when you have completed a set number of questions, and also
when you quit. This is a very well produced program which shows a lot of
promise if all the planned updates come to fruition.
VENDREDI hails all the way from France. It is an icon driven electronic
diary. It comprises a calendar with diary, an address book and a manager
for your bank account. As the program saves to disk it is recommended that
you use a backup of your original disk. Very nicely presented program with
documentation in English (1mb).

A quiz game with a difference for 1 or 2 players. Set in outer space the
ovject of the game is to answer the questions correctly. You can then
advance towards your opponents planet. You need to land on its centre
square to win. You have three shops and you lose one for every 5 questions
you answer wrong. When you lose all three you lose the game.
DISK APD 140 : AMOS PROGRAMS #7
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Contains four AMOS programs. DOTMATRIXAMOS by Arc Angel. Remember the pen
and pencil game where you have to join up the dots to make squares? No?
Well you won't know what this game is like then! FAST_FOOD.AMOS by P
Applegarth. You control a flying mouth with the joystick but beware if you
eat too much of the food that rushes by then you burp and it's game over!
LINE.AMOS by Robosoft for two players. SPINVADERS.AMOS by B.J.Hills. A
variation on the old classic Space Invaders. Good graphics and nice music.
Needs AMOS to run.

BOMBER game. Simple enough for children to play. (1mb).
DISK APD 149 : GOBBITT by C Brown
PONTOON by P D Wheatstone
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
GORBITT, guide your psycho ninja gobbit (frog?) over all the squares to
change their colour, avoiding bumping into the "baddie" of course. You
begin on a pyramid, now I know that this changes on level 2 to another
shape but I havn't got any further. Not due to lack of skill you
understand, more to lack of time (Pause for big laugh - my lack of skill
with the joystick is well known!), very well presented, good graphics and
music .
PONTOON, this version is mouse controlled with full documentation for those
of you who don't know how to play this game. This is the sort of gambling
I don't mind 'cos it's not real money! Play against the computer. You
both start with $100 and have a choice of stake from $1 to $9. All the
usual options of twist stick or buy. (1mb).

Also on the disk is a Wordsearch Puzzle Maker. Needs AMOS.
DISK APD 198 : BOMBS FROM BAGHDAD by Stealth Software
PRODIGAL SON by John Filsak
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
BOMBS FROM BAGHDAD is an unusual game and, unfortunately, quite topical
considering recent events in the Gulf. You are givin a briefing at the
beginning of the game in which you are informed that you have to intercept
aircraft which are bent on destroying you. This is a novel game and
although I would personally have preferred a less topical theme it is, to
coin a well known phrase, all done "in the best possible taste". A mouse
driven game in which you have to knock down enemy planes using your
searchlight to locate and destroy missiles.
PRODIGAL SON is a text adventure based on the story from the Bible. A
knowledge of the story in recommended by the author. The adventure is
mainly controlled with the mouse with nultiple choice answers once you have
chosen a command. At the top of the screen are the room descriptions and
at the bottom are a choice of verbs and movement commands which you choose
with the mouse, e.g. Take, Wait, N, S, E, W etc. When you are given your
choice you have to type in the number corresponding with the choice you
have made. Nice simple adventure. This disk requires 1mb.
DISK APD 199 : AMOS PROGRAMS #14
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Contains PONTOON by Chris Labrum which is a bootable program. A very good
cersion of the popular card game which sticks (no pun intended) closely to
the normal rules of the game. The disk also contains some AMOS programs
which you can only access if you own a copy of AMOS. Programs on the disk
include BITMAP FINDER, CAVL similar to NIALL, and LIGHTCYCLES all by
J.Hale.
DISK APD 200 : DUNGEON MASTER SHELL by Allen Webb
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
I am self confessed DUNGEON MASTER fanatic, having played the game way back
in 1988 on a ... dare I say it ... ATARI ST!!! So, if you have also shared
in the delights of this game you have doubtless though I wonder if I could
program a game as good! Well with this disk you are part way there. The
programs on the disk are fully documented and basically give you the bare
bones on which to base your game. So hurry up and write one and put people
like me out of our misery and give us another DM game to get to grips with.
Well done Allen, requires AMOS.
DISK APD 201 : SLIDESHOW - Disk 1 - by Ronnie Simpson
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
A two disk program which requires 1mb. A collection of digitised pictures
of a very high standard. The disk contains some stunning graphics in three
categories. One contains some brilliant pictures of animals, my favourite
is a kitten. Section 2 is entitled FANTASY and contains some really good
quality pictures. The third section is a favourite of the kids as it
contains pictures of American wrestlers and they are currently big fans of
Hulk Hogan who, unfortunately, doesn't feature in this slideshow (maybe
next time). Excellent slideshow with top quality digitised. Some of th
`Fantasy' section may not be considered suitable for young children,
however I didn't find anything offensive about them - it's a matter of
personal censorship.
DISK APD 202 : SLIDESHOW - Disk 2 -
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Needs APD201.
DISK APD 203 : XENOMORPHS & FRACTALMANIA DEMO by Robots

Requires 1mb.
DISK APD 206 : DEPECHE MODE DEMO & UNPLEASANT WAYS TO DIE by Top Sprite
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Requires 1mb. Depeche Mode demo is a novel music demo while unpleasant
ways to die shows 5 different animations of death scenes. Not wuits as
sick as it sounds. Quite funny actually but not recommended for
youngsters.
DISK APD 207 : MADNESS WEEK DEMO - Disk 1 -
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
The new two disk demo from Syntex which requires 1mb and only uses DF0:.
Excellent demo one more from Syntex. Disconnect df1: for some reason, best
known to the programmers. This demo is the one used by Mandarin (or
Europress software as they now wish to be known) in their most recent ad.
for AMOS BASIC, the Compiler and AMOS 3D. It's the one that is reminiscent
fo Shadow of the Beast. Control the "Beast" with the joystick and enter
different parts of the demo through the various doorways.
DISK APD 208 : MADNESS WEEK DEMO - Disk 2 -
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Requires APD207.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Requires APD209.
DISK APD 211 : BORIS VALLEGO FANTASY SLIDESHOW - Disk 1 - by John Kinsella
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Two disk slideshow requiring 1mb. Some of the pictures on these disks may
cause offence to the less-broadminded amongst you, but to me hey represent
art in its purest form. Not recommended for youngsters.
DISK APD 212 : BORIS VALLEGO FANTASY SLIDESHOW - Disk 2 -
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Needs APD211.
DISK APD 213 : DREAMERS 5.1
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sadly this is the last sidk mag from dreamers. They also wish me to point
out that their PD library is no longer operating. Could be a collector's
item this one.
DISK APD 214 : HANISSIS FIVE AMOS DEMO 1 by Shockwave and Pinnacle
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
This group don't usually program in AMOS by they have released this demo so
that you can use the code in your own demos. If you do then don't forget
to credit them. I was very impressed with the quality of this demo. It
contains some (not "proper") 3D vectopr routines, use the mouse to zoom in
and out. A highly recommended disk for AMOS demo programmers there's some
useful code in this one. Requires 1mb.
DISK APD 215 : FRACTALS WORKSHOP By B.J.Ellis
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Requires AMOS. Contains two readme files the first of which recommends
some good titles of books on fractals and the second of which explains

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Needs APD126.
DISK APD 218 : AMOS PROGRAMS 15
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Needs AMOS. Disk contains the following programs. 3 excellent bob
routines by Steve Bennett for you to use in your demos, very effective.
Megabase V2.2 by Ben Ashley. Skeet and Target Shooting by Steve Burnett.
A simple game written with learner programmers in mind to help you master
AMOS. The program is unfinished so that you can add whatever you wish to
it, a high score table for example. Hit the Target by Nick and Matt Tucker
and Ben Ashley a simple fairground shooting gallery. Give `em hell by Ben
Ashley a game in which you have a choice of aircraft, helicopter, tank and
jeep. It's red against green and you have to shoot up the opposition.
This disk is recommended for budding programmers. 1mb recommended.
DISK APD 219 : JIGMANIA DATA DISK 2
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Needs LPD13. Len Tucker said that he hoped Jigmania users would prepare
some data disks for the PD and Jim Campey took him up on it. Well done
Jim. Puzzles on this disk are Computerview, Bungalow, Castle and Tank for
adults and Count Duckula, Hotdogs, Robot, Bully, Frog and Audience for
kids. Well worth adding to your Jigmania collection.
DISK APD 220 : JIGMANIA DATA DISK 3
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Needs LPD13. Another one from Jim Campey. On this disk are Dredd,
Thunderbirds, Garfield, Martian, Alien Legion and Bugs Bunny for the kids
and office, Tournament, Mansion, Honda and Porsche for adults. Another
good disk for Jigmania users.
DISK APD 221 : AMOS BINGO by Dave Brown
CRACK THE CODE by G Woodcock
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
1mb recommended. In order to play AMOS BINGO you first need to prink out
the tickets so access to a printer is a must. You can then play BINGO in
the old fashioned way. The numbers are called by the computer in its
robotic voice (sounds like most bingo callers to me) and you play for a
"line" or "house". So it's eyes down for your first number .... and hold
down the left mouse button to make your call. For those of you who find
the normal game a little slow there's also a faster version called MANIAC
BINGO and it's fast! CRACK THE CODE is a version of Mastermind with a
Hi-Score table and full instructions. You start by having to guess two
colours then three and so on until you have to guess six. Not easy to work
your way through all the lot. I couldn't get past five numbers.

Disk contains full documentation. The game is played with a joystick and
the objective is to destroy as many levels of rocks as possible and to
avoid and destroy the alien ship which appears when there are only four
rocks left. Treat youself to a trip down memory lane or show the kids what
games use to be like.
DISK APD 231 : AMOK by Chris Hurst

1mb required. This game is shareware so please adhere to the programmer's
request if you enjoy the program. Your robot is trapped in a strange worls
which is unstable. To escape the robot must fit 150 micro-chips into his
teleporter. The chips appear randomly along with bombs and holes. There's
also a robotic ghost to avoid. Good fun. Also on the disk is a DISK
MANAGER which offers the facility to delete files, make directories, rename
files, delete directory, list directory, mouse off/on, music off/on. MAD
which is a flashing colourful screen with music, and SPRITEBANKVIEWER which
is self-explanatory. All programs by the same programmer.

programs. Also contains AMOSCOPY, SOUNDTRACKER V2.2 which is not a new
version just a better coded version of the latest Soundtracker converter,
and SPACKER which is a small program for packing IFF pictures.

DISK APD 237 : SHAPES by M.Archer
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
I was very impressed with this game and offered to put it into Licenceware
but the programmer wanted to try an experiment and he's released it as
"diskware". If you like it then you are supposed to send the programmer a
PD disk. I hope you don't disappoint him as I think he deserves some
reward. On booting you are given three options F1: Play the game, F2: High
Scores, F3: Instructions. The object of the game is to fill in the black
area of the board using the shapes shown at the bottom of the screen.
However, you only have a certain amount of each shape which is indicated by
the value below the shapes. You can place and remove them but there is a
time limit. If you manage to complete a level you are given a password for
the next one which you can enter on booting up to begin at that level next
time you play. Beware it's a very addictive game and it isn't as easy as
it sounds. Highly recommended for lovers of puzzle games.
DISK APD 238 : AMOS IMAGE MANIPULATOR by Martin Donnelly
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
AIM is a simple image manipulator loosly based on Pixmate. You can use it
to smear your picture to give it a sort of D-Paint smooth look. Pixelize
your picture, change the colour to give red, greem, blue or grey scales.
Flip the screen horizontally and vertically. Shift the colours up or down
by one. It can also splatter them. Shrink your screen or erase part of
it. Disk contains examples. The documentation explains each function in
full and can be accessed from Workbench.
DISK APD 239 : FANATIX MUSIC 1 - Disk 1 -
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Disk 1 of this 1mb two disk program which uses DF0:. It didn't like my
dual drive attached so I recommend that you disconnect DF1: if you have any
problems accessing fidk 2. Music player with all the usual facilities,
fast forward, rewind, etc. and a cassette turning when the music plays.
Nicely drawn. Music on the disk is Kilmanzaro - Crusaders, Imaginary Woman
- Cryptoburneers, This was the dream - T.H.R., Hip for da hop - Slipstream,
Torture - S.A.E., Scoopex Theme - Scoopex, Toxic - Anthrox, True Faith -
4-mat (Anarchy), Dragon - Escap/Outlaws, Unknown!! - Securtiate and Night
Fiction - Avalanche. Scrolling message includes a plea for me to put the
catalogue on disk. It's in hand but you may be surprised to learn that the
majority of my customers prefer to have the catalogue in printed format.
Meanwhile, check out APD233 for a quick reference to the content of the
library. You could always type in the content of this update and add it to
the existing text on the disk if you con't wait!!
DISK APD 240 : FANATIX MUSIC 1 - Disk 2 -
